OOTD & LOTD: Halloween Celebration 2013

Happy Halloween everyone!
This year, I celebrated Halloween early! Managed to come out with simple fox ears and tail prop on the day before my Halloween celebration, after like lazing at home doing nothing for a few weeks procrastinating about cutting the fur.. hahhax~
Well, now that I know what the fox says, I shall wear my big white fox ears and go around "Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!" LOLx~

After the Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R Miracle Romance Shining Moon Powder (phew~ such a long name), Bandai-Creer Beaute continues to launch 2 new cosmetic series namely the "Star Power Prism Eyeliner" and "Miracle Romance Nail Collection".
I had knew about the new makeup for sometime now and was suppose to blog about it earlier but I kinda dragged it.. ^_^"  I then learnt that there was a Sailor Moon cosmetics showcase yesterday (25 Sept) so I decided to start doing some research online. I hope this post of mine will bring wonderful news to those who are dying to get their hands on these magical products. ^-^

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Cosmetics Launch
Creer Beaute cosmetic series "Miracle Romance" & "Star Power Prism Eyeliner" was showcased at the Sailor Moon cosmetics event which took place at Spiral in Aoyama in Tokyo. The event was to commemorate the 20th anniversary since the first TV broadcast of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon as well as a launch party for the Star Power Prism Eyeliners.
Creer Beaute gathered more than 4000 applicants among those who pre-ordered Miracle Romance cosmetics from Premium Bandai and only a handful were selected to be invited to the event.
It was announced that on 26 September onwards, Star Power Prism Eyeliners (3 types of eyeliner in 5 colors) will be released simultaneously at variety shops and drug stores all across Japan, as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. (Whoohoo for Singapore! I can't wait! \^0^/~*) In near future, Creer Beaute will expand to other parts of Asia too.

Halloween 2012 Photoshoot: The Making & Bloopers ~ feat Midori Ribbon

When I began cosplaying, I had always wanted to do a few characters... before I thought of retiring from the cosplay scene.
One is character from Sailormoon, which I did the Sailor Pluto along with the whole Sailor team as its my first fav manga (will be posting pics of this photoshoot too... soon. lolx~)
Another is Jrock cosplay for various Shinya looks from Dir En Grey (I am still not done with it.. only had about 6 of his costumes)
Lastly, is to be a Witch. Be it a real character from manga/anime or a made-up one. (That's how my nick comes about...)

And there you have it! My inspiration for Halloween photoshoot came from this manga call ▼ Sugar Sugar Rune ▼

Though Sugar sugar rune is not about witches, the characters are... demon, devil, wizards but not witches.. However they fly around on brooms so I kinda think of them as witches.
Anyhoo, parts of my costume design is inspired by the fashion from Sugar sugar rune artwork. Their fashion has a mix of magical, fantasy, japanese plus english historical feel in it.

Hence, I make use of this feel to design my own costume~ Though I think my design's not really towards the Jap side but more of the magical+english? But I make use of a coloured wig to make it look slightly japish.

Costume Design
Below is my handdrawn Witch costume & broom design draft...

And below is Yuanie's Elf costume design draft done in photoshop. (I'm too lazy to convert mine into photoshop.. lolx~)

Here's how the characters actually look like in their normal day outfits.. a more Japanese feel compare to the first pic I shown.

Sourcing Materials

Sourcing materials for a self made-up character is more difficult than sourcing for an already made-up character whereby I just follow strictly to the picture and buy what is similiar to the artwork. Designing an outfit from scracth - this feeling is just like being a fashion designer yah?
Actually I already had a few ideas how the fabrics are like, but somehow few of them were bought just because they look beautiful to my eyes. Lolx~ Lucky me, all these fabrics matches each other well ^_^
As for Halloween props, most of them we just get from the pocket friendly and everything ready - Daiso!

Hey, Mimi!! Stop slacking on your job!!

We went to few places in search of parts and pieces for our costumes~
Our Halloween colour theme would be: Dark, Aristocrat yet Funky. (<_< WHAT IS THAT MAN?! HAhahax~)

Iron-on Rhinestone laces! I use this for the Neckline of my dress... but apparently got covered by my wig most of the time or its not really that visible cos its all black. DUH. =_=

Stepped into a costume & props shop~ Oh i like that Medusa head! My fav retro Villian! Maybe I should do it some day. kekekkex~

While having my costume being tailored, the only thing I need to sew myself is the hat. I hate hand sewing! =_=

Midori Ribbon
In my previous post, I did mention the use of Midori Ribbon in our costumes. So here's a clearer picture of the ribbons!

Mimi is curious too of what is inside the parcel~

I like Midori Ribbon's logo~ ^_^

I received 4 types of Ribbons from them! Of all, I used 3 of them in our Halloween costumes. I intend to use the blue on to do up something else, so it would be in a separate post. ^^

Midori Ribbon Promenade Ribbon in Henna

Midori Ribbon Dupioni Silk in Black

Midori Ribbon Dupioni Silk in Mica (I think its Mica.. definitely not Gold tho it look like vintage gold to me)

Costume
Here's how my costume turn out to be... some of the parts were different to the drawings but overall its pretty similar.

Rhinestone lace is ironed on along the neckline. The plastic belt thingy (not sure what its called, its not a belt either, but its beautiful~) is sewn on. Midori Ribbon Dupioni Silk Mica (vintage gold) is sewn around the waist to add a 3D effect to the dress and Midori Ribbon Dupioni Silk Black is sewn along the base of the dress ontop of the triangular flaps.

The hat is made base on this pic~ I end up sewing AND stapling the hat, cos I'm lazy. =P~

The bolero (cape-like outer) makes the whole costume look complete.

And not forgetting the most important prop, Witch's broom! Even without the witch pointy hat, but with a magical flying broom, it will automatically make the character look LIKE she's a witch. Playing with psychology~Hahhahax~

I love how the Dupioni ribbons twirls by itself casting nice shadows and relfects beautifully.

The Elf costume is made out of a long asymmetric turtle neck top (like a coat, but worn as a top) and a pants accompanied with a hat that Yuanie did by herself using craft foam, buttons & ribbons. The ribbons she used to accessorise over her top is also Dupioni silk ribbon + thin gold satin ribbon (I bought it). Gold chains are a last min add-on with help from Di, I'm amazed how that chain can hook onto the zipper so nicely! Its actually my gold chain belt you know... o_O"

Setup

The photoshoot is done at my house....... and i think this probably is the first time showing my messy working area... which is also part of the living room... >__<"
▲ Try spotting Mimi! ▲

Brian at my Dining area (the dining table moved to the left side) putting up the background (sewn together by Yuanie) & cobwebs. We didn't place the fake spiders onto the cobwebs because Mimi-
thought they were preys and he jumped onto the cobwebs trying to catch them. (<_<")

Pumpkins making out...
and below, is the acrylic crystal charm I wore for my character. I like the shape of the crystal!

Photoshoot time

Into my costume and done with makeup~ I didn't have any idea how I wanted my eye makeup to be (too busy with costume), I just leave it to my brain to think of it when I hold up my brush. Well, then it came out to be funky colours with edgy feel to it.. lolx~

Props up as well!~

Brian doing some test shot while I take some pics with mobile phone... The sky is dark so the pics from my mobile came out dull and noisy.

Behind the scene pics taken by Di~

We stop at our pose and looked up to the left side because there is a LCD TV there. Brian is making use of the TV to show us the pics, so we know if we want to retake again. Woots~ Kudos to technology~

I look like I have a pumpkin lantern floating above my hand..

Now you know how I FLY on my broom??

I am never short enough for anyone. Lolx~ Opps! =X

Even Mimi is also in the scary Halloween mood. He kept going under the dress and peaking out from the fabrics, then paws people's leg when we walk past.

Mimi says: YOU CANNOT SEE ME!!! (Like DUH?)

Halloween 2012: Witch & The Elf ~ feat. Midori Ribbon

[image intensive: for every pic is of high resolution]
I know this post came super late... But I guess posting this before year 2012 ends is better than posting this in year 2013.. lolx~ If you wonder why we did this 'original' cosplay and where we got the inspiration from, wait to read my next 'the making & blooper' post. ^_~
Before some of these pics were released through FB via the photographer, he was asking me "What theme name for this Halloween shoot?" I thought simply - Witch & the Elf. Why the 'Witch' comes first before 'Elf'?~~ Trying finding the answer from the pics~

Witch: by myself
Elf: by Yuanie (visit her cosplay site HERE)
Photographer: Brian Lim (visit his cosplay photography FB page HERE)
Helper: Di
*Photos are all taken by Brian Lim. Photos without his watermark are post-processed by me with Photoshop*

And there will be a Caption for every pic~ (almost all! =p~)
Enjoy! ^_^

Halloween DIY Props with MIDORI: miwitch Flying Broom

As promised in my previous post, I'm putting up a step by step tutorial on making miwitch Flying Broom!!!
Basically its just a broom, nothing fancy.. But I name it MY broom because its.... the GANGNAM Jap style of broom that I like!! Lolx~

BROOM BROOM FLYYYYYYYYY~~~

By the way, my broom design was inspired by the manga I LOVE very much: Sugar Sugar Rune (Thats why i say Jap style :p)

Materials

Right, first you gota buy these materials:
1 Wooden Stick 4.4 feet or 135cm long - I got this for free at my workplace, not sure how much it sells in the market.. ^_^"
Several bundle of Bristles - I bought like 3 bundles, each bundle only cost me 80 cents! So, its like only $2.40!

Tools
You will need:
- Double side tape (all kinds of widths)
- Scissors
- Needle / Pin
- Fishing Line
- 1 Big O-Ring
- 1 Charm/ Crystal/ Pendant
- 1/5 inch (5mm) gold ribbon
- 3¾ inch Midori Promenade Henna ribbon
- And you need DRILLS too! I had these cos I often use them for school projects last time so I couldn't rem how much I got these for.. perhaps $10+? They are supposed to be attached to a drill machine but I got no machine so I just use hand to hold the end and twist it with force.

How to DIY? Step-by-step Tutorial
Using 4 or 4.5mm drill to bore through the end of the wooden stick. As this wood is lightweight, (I think its plywood) It takes less effort to twist the drill in with bare hands.
In my case, I'm lucky to already have the 2 holes at both ends of the stick so I need not do this. hehex~ =p~

Next, paste double-sided tapes on the wooden stick. It must not cover the holes.

Get ready to ribbon the stick up??! ^0^~
Get 3¾ inch Midori Promenade Henna ribbon , fold the ends inwards and tape it like this:

Peel off the white tape from the wooden stick (leaving the sticky tape on the stick) and start wrapping the ribbon around it:

Next, locate the hole that you had drilled, take a needle/ pin and poke it through. Wiggle the pin around to make a hole on the ribbon.

Ready to dressup your wooden stick??! Do like I do here:
Remember to fold the end of the ribbon inwards and tape it in so the frays doesnt show on the outside.

Now, make a BIG BOW. Like the way you usually do with any other ribbons. If you are unsure of the method in tying a nice bow, click HERE.
I made a bow with its centre tightened up, so I could place another ribbon over the center part like so:

See? With this extra step, the bow looks nicer! And don't underestimate the power of Double-sided tape! Heh heh. :D

Lastly, snip off the ribbon ends like this:

There you go, a perfect bow!!

Next up, decorating the broom stick!
Get a big O-Ring that is not made of hard metal, so that it is easier to work with. If you can use pliers or even fingers to bend the ring would be best. Put the O-Ring through the hole you had drilled. It might take some time to get it in because O-Ring is round, and the hole you drilled is straight.
After that, make a charm of your own using materials like: Ribbons, Crystals, Pendants, etc... I made my own charm using gold ribbon, acrylic tear drop crystal and a gothic cross charm.

Hook the ribbon into the O-Ring and TADAAAAHHH!!~

This step should show how I tie the bristles to the broom stick, however I forgotten to take pictures when I did that so I come up with a very simple illustration... ^_^"
I divide the the bristles into 5-6 bundles. I tied each bundle with the gold ribbon (which I used for the charm earlier). This will help the bristles stay together.
How I do it step-by-step:
- get my ribbon to go through the hole at the bottom end of the wooden stick
- tie dead knots to the wooden stick to secure the ribbon
- using the rest of the ribbon, I tie 1 bundle of bristles at a time to the wooden stick (I didn't cut off the ribbon so I can get unlimited supply of ribbon to tie more bristles to the stick)
- wrap aroundthe bundle of bristles with the ribbon and pull the ribbon so that it is tight around the bristles
- once 1st bundle is tight, go for the 2nd bundle
- repeat with the rest of the bristles.
- until all bristles are tied up to the stick, use the ribbon to go around the whole bundle of bristles
- cut the ribbon and make dead knots
- Lastly, snip off the bristles' ends to make it shorter as they are too long and the ends are usually too flimsy to be able to stand up by itself
Below shows a side view of the bristles where you can see the gold ribbon I used for tying up the bristles.

How to tie the bow onto the bristles? Use Fishing line!
Poke the fish line through the back of the bow and wrap around the bristles, then make dead knots. This will secure the bow in place! ^_^

You can flatten the bow or make it look poofy too!

Final Look of miwitch Flying Broom

At first trial, I put the bow at the top of the broom stick..... It kinda look like a magical staff than a broom... (<_<")
Then decided later to have it at the bristles. Lolx~

I love my broom~~~

miwitch's Japan Tokyo Trip 2012 ~ Shibuya, Harajuku, Laforet, Meiji-Jingu Shrine, Akihabara

Continued from my previous post Part 2 HERE..... I met up with my friend, Di (who happen to also visit Japan almost same timing as mine) target to visit Shibuya, Harajuku, Yoyogi and flea market.

[edited 12 Jul 2012: I had just added some more pictures and details of the stuffs I 'd bought! ^^v~]
First stop was Shibuya. Di quoted from her bro-in-law that if you didn't take a photo of the iconic spot of the place, means you never went there before. And so~~~ we MUST take this statue of Hachiko (忠犬ハチ公像) to prove that we were here! hahahx~
