Last month, I received AVALON™ Japanese Fish Collagen from TSS for review. ^^ As always, when I see the word COLLAGEN, I'm very happy!!! \^o^/
I always liked using collagen stuffs because I feel that my skin is lack of collagen & oxygen, therefore they're sagging already.. ^^" So I want them to go back to *BOING BOING* skin! Regardless of whether its for external (skincare) or internal use (consume), I'm most glad to try both kinds!
Below shows 3 boxes of the products in 3 different flavours namely, Lemon, Mango & Blueberry.

AVALON™ Japanese Fish Collagen Write-up
About 70-80% of the protein composition in our body and skin are made up of collagen. Bones, joints, muscles, hair, nails and blood vessels are all made up of collagen. As we age, collagen in our body decreases, resulting in aging skin or body ache.
AVALON™ Japanese Fish Collagen is made up of Japanese Fish Collagen of molecular weight less than 3,000 Daltons; a formulation designed to best suit the human body absorption. In addition, it is the only collagen product in the market to be fortified with Probiotic complex – a combination of strains of beneficial bacteria.
These work together to balance intestinal microflora and facilitate the rebuilding of a healthy intestinal system which is able to boost collagen peptides and L-Vitamin C absorption, doubling the effectiveness of anti-aging and anti-oxidant properties, leaving us with radiant skin to reveal beauty from inside out.
Available in 3 refreshing flavours, AVALON™ makes consumption of collagen a pleasurable daily affair. Besides, every serving is individually packed for great convenience, catering to busy individuals who want to keep healthy glowing skin while they are on the go. With no added sugar, AVALON™ Japanese Fish Collagen is one great choice for diabetics as well as weight watchers.
It is never too early to start on collagen as the natural production of collagen in our body declines after 20 years of age.

By the way, Avalon Japanese Fish Collagen is Halal. Muslim friends can try this too! ^^
Oh yes, have I told you that I'm a very picky eater.. I hate to eat anything that ends with the word 'Berry'. Like strawberry, raspberry, blueberry.. Hence I had to force myself to consume the Blueberry flavoured collagen in order for me to review on all of the 3 flavours.. (>,<")~

Packs inside the Box
Inside each box, there are 6 packs of the below. Except for Blueberry where its only 3 packs because of the number of sticks difference. (Note the bottom left number - Its the no. of sticks)
Mango & Lemon contains 5 sticks per pack. Blueberry contains 10 sticks per pack.

Sticks inside the Pack
Here's how the sticks & the collagen content inside it look like.

DO YOU KNOW???
What exactly is collagen?
Collagen is the glue that holds our bodies together. Fibrous in nature, it connects and supports other bodily tissues, such as skin, bone, tendons, muscles, and cartilage. It also supports the internal organs and is even present in teeth.
It is the most abundant structural protein in the body. 60% of the body is made up of connective tissue and collagen represents 80% of all connective tissue. 75% of the dermis consists of collagen and it accounts for 90% of dermal volume.
There are more than 25 types of collagens that naturally occur in the body.
How important collagen is to your body
Depletion of collagen in the skin leads to the formation of wrinkles and the appearance of ageing. Depletion of collagen in connective tissue - tendons, ligaments, muscles and cartilage - results in the reduction of support for the joint structure of the body contributing to such conditions as arthritis and musculo-skeletal injuries.
Why you need to replace collagen
Unfortunately it is generally acknowledged that the body loses collagen at a rate of approximately 1.5% per annum from the age of 25-30 years onwards. A proper collagen balance in the body is obviously highly desirable, but is not so easy to achieve and to maintain.
What is Fish collagen?
Fish collagen is a protein extracted from fish that is mainly used as a cosmetic aid to decrease the appearance of wrinkles.
During a person's younger years, the body continually discards old collagen and creates new collagen. After the age of 25 or so, the body begins to lose its ability to create new collagen. The lack of new collagen leads to a host of aging symptoms, such as fine lines, wrinkles, arthritis, and joint problems.
Animal Collagen being replaced by Fish/Marine Collagen
For many years, animal collagen was used for collagen supplements, although it had many drawbacks. Human skin has a difficult time absorbing animal collagen, so collagen treatments had to be supplemented with a hypodermic injection treatment, which typically was expensive and carried the risk of infection. Animal collagen also has the potential to spread bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), better known as mad cow disease, thus posing another danger to humans.
Since BSE and other issues are found within animal collagen, scientists began looking for safer types of collagen. They discovered that fish collagen, which is extracted from fish skin and scales, is a non-toxic alternative. Even better, fish collagen is more readily absorbed by human skin than animal collagen.
Due to the variety of water temperatures and pressures in which fish live, fish collagen is resistant to physical and chemical damage. In addition, the extraction process for fish collagen preserves its triple-helix structure, thus keeping polypeptides and amino acids intact. These proteins naturally complement collagen and make the resulting treatment more effective.
Fish collagen is most widely used in cosmetics. It typically moisturizes the skin and helps it appear firmer, smoother, and more elastic. Fish collagen can also be an effective treatment for arthritis-related pain and inflammation.
In addition to cosmetics and arthritis treatments, marine collagen is also effective as a diet supplement. It is easily digestible and dissolves without difficulty in water. Due to its restorative health benefits, fish collagen is often used in health food, health drinks, health supplies, and medication for intestinal illnesses.
According to a report on Food Navigator, marine collagen comes primarily from deepwater fish found in unpolluted areas and is believed to be a safe source of collagen.
Pros & Cons of Marine Collagen
Marine collagen has been widely used in Japan for many years as a natural supplement.
Since marine collagen is becoming widely marketed in skin products, more people are turning to this natural substance for its purported anti-aging benefits. While the appearance and texture of skin is partially determined by genetics, certain detrimental factors affect a person’s skin such as environmental toxins, diet and smoking. Some consumers think using marine collagen may help them diminish the signs of aging and decrease the negative effects of toxins.
Advantages of marine collagen supplements is that the substance is odorless and tasteless. There have not been any reported side effects and it is considered a safe substance. Since the use of this particular collagen is still relatively new, there have not been enough studies conducted to determine the long-term safety of the product. With any new supplement, it is best to use it in cautionary amounts in order to see how the body will react to it.
Even if a skin care product contains all natural ingredients, it can still cause the user to have skin irritation. People who have sensitive skin may need to use a small amount of the collagen cream or lotion to make sure there are not any allergic reactions. Signs of an allergic reaction to any product include redness, bumps and overly dry skin.

My Review on AVALON™ Japanese Fish Collagen
After doing some research on the net, it seems that even scientists themselves couldn't be sure if human body can fully absorb collagen.
Perhaps, only the Japanese knows the answer...? (Since they came up with it) But if the body truely can't absorb collagen, then what for the japanese come out with such products? It has to have some reasons and definitely tests are being done in the their labs showing certain results before they launch the products.
Or otherwise, this would become a fraud.... right? ^^" (More like a longterm fraud... kekex~)
I think that ultimately, it depends on the consumer him/herself to believe whether consuming collagen does help them to have better skin and bones. Hmmm... so its like psychological benefits? ^^"
Anyhoos, back to my product review ^^
Its so true that age 25 and above will stop producing collagen (according to the research I'd done), no wonder for the past few years, I experienced skin sagging at a really fast speed where I can see and feel obvious differences. I appear to look even thinner than before because I'm lacking collagen in my body and my cheeks doesn't look as round as last time.
I also started to experience pain in my joints when I overuse them during work; shoulders, ankles, knees.
Probably if AVALON didn't send me their products, I wouldn't have known that all these problems are caused by massive lack of collagen in my body!
For any general girls or woman, they'll most likely describe this kind of symptoms with 2 words: "OLD LIAO"
Yes, they are not wrong either. Because of OLD, you loses alot of stuffs in your body. And one of it, is collagen.
For all of your info, my review will be based on 1 and half week of consuming AVALON Japanese Fish Collagen.
From the beginning, I already started to consume AVALON Japanese Fish Collagen by pouring half of the content to my mouth directly, then drink plain water and let it mix in my mouth before I swallow. And then pour the rest of the content to my mouth, drink water, mix and swallow.
I was actually expecting it to taste awful but to my surprise, it tasted nice because of its flavours.
So I am now able to pour the whole satchet of Fish Collagen into my mouth directly, drink water, mix and swallow. ^^
My favourites would definitely be Lemon & Mango, because I do not like Blueberry ^^" Anything berries, they're automatically out. kekkex..
However, all 3 flavours are still considered nice (Yes, even for blueberry ^^). Every of them has its true fruit taste (ie, Lemon - sour). Blueberry basically just tasted sweet + some weird taste (that weird taste is refering to blueberry smell..).
I ever tried adding Lemon flavoured collagen into an Ice Lemon Tea drink, since its all lemon so I think it should still taste the same old ice lemon tea. Hahahx..
I'd been consuming the collagen everyday, 1 satchet each day at random time, and somedays 2 satchets depending if I have time.
During the trial period, I experienced joint pains, probably because there's a day when I was forced to climb the bukit timah hill, an intensive exercise where I overworked my muscles & joints. The collagen didn't do its job by reducing the pain and up to today I'm still having slight on & off pains at ankles & knees.
I paid the most attention to my face skintone, wrinkles & pores and so far the only 2 things I noticed was that my skin is slightly fairer and radiant. (which results to my dark circles turning more obvious than before! =_=")
The other would be my laugh line which I'm very much concern for at least the past half year (it grew deeper during the past year hence I'm worried it may become worst). My laugh line was formerly just a dent (concaved), there wasn't any wrinkles so I could only see 2 shadows at the laughlines if there's lighting above my head. Only recent year, the laughlines became wrinkles. It even trapped foundation and it was obvious in my photos as well.
After taking AVALON in addition with using my new set of skincare, the wrinkles disappeared! Even when I laugh or smile, the foundation no longer got trapped at the laughlines. Only some days when I really laugh too much or I have dry/tired skin (due to lack of sleep), it will trap a tiny bit of foundation, which can easily be removed by using a clean finger to blend out the trapped foundation.
Lastly, for the other parts of my body.. I hardly see any differences. Or perhaps I didn't pay much attention to them. Anyways I believe that by consuming such beauty products will have to take a longer time to see significant results, not just by a week or 2. It's still best that when we consume it, we also need to have a healthy balanced diet. That, I think I failed.. I'm a very unhealthy person who likes to eat nonsence food and skip vegetables & fruits (darn.. =_=)
So I'm now like praying AVALON collagen can be my elixir. Lolx.. (what nonsence am I talking about.. ^^")
To add on, I had oil bumps (soft closed comedones) growing all over face and neck before, about 3 times during the past 1 and half year. You can see it HERE
I didn't know how I got it, I tried switching my skincare products but everytime it comes, it was rather random. Hence I concluded that its caused by improper cleansing methods, or I'm stressed out that causes my skin to be tired and breaks out, or I ate the wrong thing, OR I use something that has an ingredient that I'm allergic of.
To be frank, my skin has never been sensitive or allergic of something (touch wood.. ^^"). I was actually quite afraid that I'm sensitive towards Marine Collagen therefore I stopped using SKINC collagen serum till today! (it was said that i contains marine collagen properties inside..)
But I totally had no problem with AVALON Japanese Fish collagen, so that's to say I'm not allergic to marine collagen! ^o^
And now to end my review, I'd to say that AVALON Japanese fish collagen also gave me psychological benefits.. Lolx~ Mainly because of the word 'COLLAGEN' hence I'm very happy to eat it everyday. At the back of my mind, I'll keep thinking that I'll have firmer skin, painless joints, nicer nails etc. Maybe if I keep thinking that way, I'll really have firmer skin, painless joints, nicer nails! XD~
As such, it force me into putting at least 1 satchet in my bag everyday so I will remember to consume it during my working time or relaxing time~
Phew! That was a long review + explainations! ^^
